Holiday exterior home lighting solutions is not an investment you normally consider. It is more of a seasonal cost–fun, perhaps optional. That is slightly different after you have experienced a couple of Decembers fiddling with tangled lights, dead bulbs and the gradual understanding that your time is fading away in an undertaking that you did not completely enter into.
Time is the first to generate the value. Not theoretical time–real hours you will save. Rather than dividing the job into several evenings, it is all done in one. Nothing there, half-complete, to hang days. No last minute rush prior to the arrival of guests. You have nothing and suddenly it is all light without the interim confusion.
You also have that consistency that you can hardly reproduce yourself. Strauss, straight contours, equal intensity. It may seem like a little thing until you observe the extent to which it alters the general appearance of a house. I have also witnessed arrangements whereby fewer lights were more just because they were in the right location.
Professional holiday light installation materials are prone to withstand the season better. That will equate to less downtime and less frustration at the middle of December. Off-the-shelf lights are welcome, but they will tend to fade away or break down at the most inconvenient moment at all when all other things are underway.
The investment concept begins to be more clear in maintenance. Something will go amiss at some time. A strand is blown away by wind, a piece is black, ties are slack. In case you installed it yourself, you are outside repairing it. Otherwise, you typically send a quick message and leave it to another person. Such a change is slight, until you have had to work on something in the cold more than one time.
It has its own mental aspect, about which not much is said. When the lights are turned on and operational, then you are finished. Nothing left to do in the back of your head. No I will correct that tomorrow. It is another thing that is not clamoring with your attention during a hectic month.
Takedown is also a component of the equation. Power is intense to raise the lights, then it decreases rapidly. All this is disposed of in a short time, and with little thought, and is found in the storage room. Light installation done by professionals typically involves removal and well-packaged packing that silently spares you the hassle of cleaning up that mess the following year.
The price is never left out. It is not the least costly way, and it should not be presented as such. However, once you consider time, changing lights, and the hassle of trying to resolve problems yourself, it begins to feel more even.
There are individuals who really like the activity of installing lights, and it is understandable. However, when it is something you are pushing through each year instead of something to anticipate, it begins to seem like a money waste instead of a money recovery when you start putting it in a service.
